The Cottage

A few words about the cottage.  Additional dwellings are not permitted--even on properties large enough to accommodate them--so I'm building a "gym".  It will have three workout areas, a juice bar, and a shower.  That said, it will also accommodate guests--with a mini kitchen (microwave, under-counter refrigerator, dishwasher) and a full bath.  I decided it would be wise to make the space handicap accessible--wider doorways and a curbless shower with a grab bar.  I also added a washer-dryer combination, a fireplace and air conditioning.  All very comfortable, so if I should need a main floor bedroom at some point, I'll kick out my guests and use it!

Skip (builder) has identified some found space under the structure for storage and utilities.  This photo shows the level I'll be able to access from a back, hillside garage-type door.

    

The top of these boards are ground level, only a foot lower than the first floor of the house.  Yes, lots more fill will be needed!  The inset at the right foreground is where the entrance will be.
