A Wedding

Toward the end of last year, I agreed to host a wedding at my house this summer.  Jaime and Brian introduced me to a couple of their friends who I've gotten to know and like.  They got engaged and were looking for an outdoor venue to get married.  I'm flattered that they want to have it here, and I decided to make use of "the Folly" and all that I've put into it.  I do love to entertain, and I think it will be fun.

So, we had a couple meetings and walk-arounds, and settled on the details.  The evening will all be outside and they're taking care of all the logistics.  The bridesmaids will use the cottage to get ready and the groomsmen will use the basement.  The ceremony will take place on the grass around the reflecting pool.

The catered dinner will be served at round tables on the gravel patio.

And they're making a platform for dancing on my south-facing patio.

The best thing about having this in the near future is the motivation it's provided me!  My basement has been the receptacle of everything that didn't fit in the house.  And there was a lot!  I ignored it for the past two years--I just avoided going down there.  But now, I have to clean it up and make it presentable for the guys to get ready in.

I also want the garden to be full and lush.  So I've been buying plants to fill in, so it won't look like the new landscape that it is.  It needs a few years of growth, but with everything in bloom it should look nice.  It will be interesting to see if there's a toll taken on the lawn with so many chairs.  And where the dance floor is going to be, the plants will get crushed.  But the type of plants I have there are almost indestructible, and even if they look bad the rest of this summer, they'll bounce back next year.

So, as the time approaches, I'm excited and hope it all goes smoothly.  Because... I may have inadvertently agreed to another wedding here next year! ðŸ˜³
