I Didn't Escape It
Well, I finally got Covid*. I came home from a weekend away and developed an odd dry cough. After a few days I decided to test. I had expired tests, but took two anyway. Both were positive. I then bought a new test and it also showed positive.
Five days in, and I still have a slight cough (but not bad) and a runny nose (not much more than usual). My smell and taste are still intact. So I'm basically very short on symptoms and not suffering--except for having to isolate at home a few short days.
But what this has brought to light for me is how absolutely fortunate I am to have only gotten Covid now--three years later. Had I gotten it in 2020, my reaction and recovery could have been incredibly different--and not even guaranteed! Look how many people lost their lives over what is now, for me, a mild respiratory virus!
I am so appreciative and grateful to all the scientists who worked tirelessly and under such intense pressure to develop the Covid-19 vaccines! I'm convinced being fully vaccinated (though not completely up-to-date with boosters) is what's enabled my body to limit my virus response and avoid severe illness.
*COVID-19 a contagious respiratory disease caused by infection with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)
