Friday Night In
I seem to gravitate toward concepts that other cultures illuminate and decode so precisely. So many translate well and relate to all of us. I like the subtle nuance of the Japanese aesthetic. And I appreciate the simple and straightforward lifestyle principles that Scandinavian countries embrace. Here's my latest--and a perfect suggestion for the end of a sometimes hectic and exhausting holiday season.
FREDAGSMYS
Swedish for "Cozy Friday" or "Relaxed Friday" or "Friday night in"
Fredagsmys prioritizes feeling good and self-care. Letting go of your (fomo) fear of missing out on every social or networking opportunity. Instead, turning on the fire, putting on those thick cozy socks and opening a bottle of wine--with or without a couple friends.
We tend to place so much emphasis on productivity and perfection, which can be draining. That's why slowing down in a low-pressure setting can be so appealing. Fredagsmys focuses on simplicity, having a good time without expectations or obligations.
So ask yourself what your intention is for the evening. Do you just want calm, to reconnect with a friend, or to totally relax before a good night's sleep? Create your setting. If your goal is a cozy atmosphere, turn down the lights, light a candle, find soothing music or a fun movie, and bring out simple food. And then unplug. Turn off your devices and enjoy your Friday night in.
