Accessing What You Have

Image
You have a dwelling to live in.  If you built it, you already put a lot of consideration into its design, and you get to start with a clean slate of your choosing.  But if you have an existing house to make your home, first and foremost, you need to come to terms with the inherent Architecture.  Another important feature is the Natural Light you have to work with.  And finally you need to take a critical look at the Furnishings you have--what will work, what won't, and what you'll need.

How to Begin

The theoretical aspects of design and the practical applications are the same for all home styles.  The secret is not to be intimidated and don't over-analyze it.  If you do your own decorating, you'll probably end up with an eclectic style--some of this, a bit of that.  Most of us are not easily defined by one word or fit into one category.  This is what makes your home unique to you.

Giving it Your Signature

A Welcoming Home

My last two posts are my beginning thoughts on creating a home.  What makes a home, how it tells your story, and now, what makes a home feel welcoming.  I've given a lot of thought to what my home means to me, how it's an extension of my personality and style, and why I care so much about how it feels to me and others.

A Story to Tell
